About Lake District Wedding Photography

Damn I’ve worked in a lot of places before settling as a wedding photographer in Cumbria. I did a degree in English at Lancaster but at the age of 21 discovered my love of photography.

I have worked as a magazine editor and copy writer in The Noth East, a stint at North News and pictures followed and I settled into a job at Venture portraits, doing all of my Adobe qualifications and working in studios all over the country.

Alongside this I started shooting weddings, slowly at first and then building up my portfolio to the point where I could comfortably work a wedding with 200+ guests on my own. I have since worked at every venue in the Lake District, top to bottom and as you will see from my recommended suppliers page, I have a penchants for some of the rarer venues and hidden gems that the Lake District and wider cumbrian region has to offer. I also cover venues like Hetland Hall, Mabie House and Easterbrook Hall across the border. Scotland is a whole different experience and some of the venues are breathtaking.

My style of wedding is a hybrid, I attempt to keep the tradition and at the same time run a mile from cheesy wedding photographs. I have a deep rooted love of reportage photography, so this naturally transfers into my weddings. My favourite photographers aren’t from the wedding industry, but mainly from the huge photo agencies of Magnum and Black Star. I also take a lot of inspiration from Vogue, Tattler and the world of fashion. It’s Here that some of the greatest photographers like Duffy, Bailey and Knight made their names.

I have my wife Victoria who is very accepting of me rolling in at 1am after driving back from Barrow weddings. I also have two children, Fashion mad Rose (Bob) who can murder a Biscoff milkshake in the blink of an eye and Sam (dude) my Pokemon card and Fortnite mad son.

I love cooking (I make a mean lasagne) and walking our dogs Molly and Bear. We are huge fans of Centre Parcs and go every summer, but another love of travel sees us going abroad as often as possible. I have also photographed weddings all over Europe and as far away as Mexico. I also love joinery and building furniture so if you can’t find me at any of the above places, you’ll probably find me at the sawmill geeking out over a slab of birch.

I am an LGBTQIA+ friendly wedding photographer and these weddings can be some of the most vibrant and fun to photograph. I want to shoot more of these, lots more at every venue in the Lake District and Cumbria, all over again. A whole new tapestry of memories created.

I’m Cumbrian born and bred, and wouldn’t want to live and work anywhere else. I have a love for my job as a photographer that runs deep, no matter how many weddings I photograph and What part of the country those weddings are in. I look forward to creating some awesome images of your wedding celebration.
