Advice for Brides & Grooms
The Lake District in Cumbria. A stunning location for wedding photography. Its picturesque landscapes, rolling hills, and serene lakes provide a beautiful backdrop for capturing some memorable images. Here are some tips and ideas to chat through with me before your wedding day:
1. Research Locations:
The Lake District offers numerous scenic spots for photography. Research popular wedding venues, such as Leeming House, The Old England, Askham Hall or Lodore Falls to find the perfect setting for your wedding cerebration.
2. Timing:
Consider the time of year and weather conditions on your wedding day. The Lake District is known for its unpredictable weather, so it’s a good idea to have backup plans or alternative indoor locations in case of rain. However, even on cloudy or misty days, the landscapes can still deliver some incredible dramatic images.
3. Golden Hour:
Take advantage of the golden hour, which is the period shortly after sunrise or before sunset when the light is soft and warm. Consider your venues location as sunset may arrive a little earlier if you are surrounded by mountains. Venues like Inn on the Lake, Leeming House and the Lakeside hotel. Lakeside Windermere venues can be some that get the best of the evening light.
4. Explore the Surroundings:
While all of the natural landscapes are the highlight of the Lake District, don’t forget to explore the charming villages, stone bridges, and other architectural features that may be within reach of your venue. These places can provide some amazing backdrops for your wedding photographs and scope for something a little different.
5. Local Knowledge:
Employ a photographer who knows the area really well. Who knows the quirky little locations and hidden spots that aren’t common knowledge to those visiting the area. Wedding venues usually have vast sprawling grounds but not all will have the grounds for Lake access. Knowing the locations of a public jetty or accessible grounds to get that perfect photograph is essential.
6. Candid Moments:
Reportage images are now expected as part of a portfolio and essential to any wedding coverage. Those awesome moments of Nan knocking back whisky or the page boys picking their nose all help to tell the story of your wedding day. I like to have time during the day to look for these images, so generally a spread out wedding day can be a bit of a treat to photograph.
8. Consider the conditions:
With the weather being so changeable in the Lake District bring wellies and umbrellas so you can head outside for photographs if bad weather is persistent. In the Lakes there isn’t really bad weather, its either sunny or dramatic.
Remember, every wedding is unique, so make sure to discuss your vision and ideas with me to ensure I capture the moments that matter most to you and your family.
