Wedding Venues in the Lake District (and beyond)
If you’re getting married at a venue in Cumbria or the Lake District which is not listed here, let me know as it’s likely I have shot there but reached the limit on the venues in the list.
I can also meet up with you at your venue to talk about the potential for available photographs and walk round locations.
If your wedding venue is a marquee at a selected location, it would also be possible to meet up in a field, garden, house, et cetera, where the reception will be held.
Lots of wedding photographers in the Lake District will charge for pre shoots – I offer these free with all summer packages.
If required, a signing frame can be made up for your wedding guests to sign.
Also available is a portable studio free of charge at any wedding reception.
Barrow / Cumbria
Abbey House
A great wedding venue in Barrow in Furness, with acres of beautiful outside space and some of the most beautiful interiors in southern Lakeland.
Armathwaite / Cumbria
Armathwaite Hall
One of the venues closest to home and also one that I photograph at a lot. There is so much here I find it hard to know where to begin. Read on to find out more.
Lancaster / Lancashire
Ashton Memorial and Holiday Inn
The most incredible gothic pile on the fringe of Lancaster. One of my favourite venues and has so much around it you will have the most amazing wedding photographs.
Windermere / Cumbria
Broadoaks Country House Hotel
One of the few venues that are away from the shore of Windermere, but amazing all the same. An awesome hunting heritage and some beautiful wood panelled rooms.
Cockermouth / Cumbria
Broughton Craggs
An excellent venue with some lovely grounds and loads of character. Really close to Cockermouth and the Lake District.
Keswick / Cumbria
Castle Inn Hotel
After a new renovation and lush extension being built, the Castle Inn is a great venue. There are also some additional grounds at the back which are really wow.
Windermere / Cumbria
Cragwood Country House Hotel
This is one place that uses outside space to its fullest with some really unique locations, great views and Lakeside launch through the woods.
Carlisle / Cumbria
Crown and Mitre & The Tithe Barn
Two venues I know but they are linked by the weddings that I have shot at both being held at both. They are both great venues made even better in winter.
Dalston / Cumbria
Dalston Hall Hotel
Just outside Carlisle and has stacks of locations for wedding photographers. Winter and Christmas weddings here photograph amazingly.
Auldgirth / Dumfries
Friars Carse Hotel
Up over the border in Scotland with a whole heap going for it. Weddings in the marquee are especially grand.
Gilsland / Cumbria
Gilsland Spa Hotel
A wedding photographer's home from home. Just over the border in Northumberland and for weddings near Alston or Hallbankgate, this is the venue for a reception.
Wigton / Cumbria
Greenhill Hotel
Literally a stone's throw from home, this is one of the venues that I started at as a wedding photographer in Cumbria. A deceptively big venue.
Penrith / Cumbria
Greystoke Castle
Just outside Penrith and a really beautiful place to get married. They can also hold small banquets there for weddings. Love this one.
Dalston / Cumbria
Heather Glen Country House
One of the newer wedding venues but has just as much charm and character as any. Very well organised and ran on a wedding day.
Carrutherstown / Dumfries
Hetland Hall Hotel
Just between Annan and Dumfries in Carrutherstown, this is a great little reception venue. Lots and lots of locations for photographers.
Cockermouth / Cumbria
Hundith Hill Hotel
With views over Lorton and the northern Lakes Hundith Hill has a higher capacity than all the other venues around it. A favourite with Cockermouth wedding photographers.
Glenridding / Cumbria
Inn on the Lake
One of the best locations for a wedding in the Lakes. Massive potential all around the ‘IOTL’ with the possibility of going on a steamer with Ullswater Steamers too.
Kendal / Cumbria
Kendal Registry Office
Okay, not technically a wedding venue but for those looking for a relaxed wedding or those who are going off piste with a ‘no fixed abode’ venue, read on.
Windermere / Cumbria
Langdale Chase Hotel
From the boat house to the great hall, this is an incredible place. The gardens are award winning and really make the hotel stand out.
Langley / Northumberland
Langley Castle
Not to far over into Northumberland, this is a great wedding venue for directional light wedding photography. Be sure to look further into this brilliant venue.
Penrith / Cumbria
Leeming House
Ah, Leeming, just off Ullswater but with all the benefits of other Ullswater venues just a short walk away. Amazing scenery of High Street and beautiful décor.
Borrowdale / Cumbria
Lodore Falls Hotel
Another firm favourite with wedding photographers in Cumbria and they now have the option to get married outside in fine weather. Highly recommend this one.
Armathwaite / Cumbria
Low House
Situated in Armathwaite, the Low House is a great venue, especially for marquee weddings. Plenty of nooks and crannies to explore for photographers here.
Windermere / Cumbria
Low Wood Bay
A little on its own compared to the location of the other hotels on Windermere, but its ability to hold large weddings sets it apart.
Windermere / Cumbria
Merewood Country House Hotel
On Windermere there are very few venues with views like the Merewood. It’s elevated position means that the sun sets just that little bit later.
Newby West / Cumbria
New House Farm
Just outside Cockermouth in Lorton, New House farm has a growing reputation with wedding photographers. A great place to photograph.
Penrith / Cumbria
North Lakes Hotel
The North Lakes is massive inside and has some great natural light locations for rainy days. A real all round venue.
Penrith / Cumbria
Roundthorn Country House
Located on the exclusive Beacon Edge in Penrith, the Roundthorn has some epic views over to the north eastern fells.
Calderbridge / Cumbria
Sella Park Country House Hotel
Right down the west coast of Cumbria from Whitehaven is Sella Park, The grounds here are its real selling point. Lots of trees and river access.
Shap / Cumbria
Shap Wells Hotel
I am literally scratching the surface of Shap Wells, which is a venue with masses to offer for a bride and groom.
Windermere / Cumbria
The Belsfield
Situated like the guardian of Bowness and with great access to the boats and Windermere, this is really one to love.
Grange Over Sands / Cumbria
The Grange Hotel
Not many venues in the Lakes never mind Grange-Over-Sands stack up to this one. Always enjoy photographing there.
Windermere / Cumbria
The Samling
Needs no introduction, one of the most exclusive and desirable venues on Windermere. Unassuming at first but breath taking at the end.
Newby Bridge / Cumbria
The Swan Hotel
Some great interiors here and amongst other things a marina to wander about in makes this a large and amazing hotel for wedding photographers.
Windermere / Cumbria
The Wild Boar
Set back off the Lake near Windermere Golf Club, the Wild Boar has a lot of character. The woods at the back are an amazing place for wedding photographs too.
Grasmere / Cumbria
The Wordsworth Hotel
Situated in Grasmere this is a venue which has some of the best grounds. The rooms are spacious, making it the reportage wedding photographers favourite haunt.
Windermere / Cumbria
Windermere Boat Racing Club
I remember going here for the first time and just being in awe of Broad Leys. For art deco wedding venues in Cumbria, this is the one.
