This was one of my first ever wedding venues to photograph at and it is also fifteen minutes drive from home, so I have a deep affection for it and its location. Unlike most venues in the Lake District, it is built from a lovely dark sandstone, which looks brilliant on sunny day weddings. There is also a massive function room to the side of the main house which is massive, holding up to three hundred guests. This sort of size is matched only by the White Heather in the local area for capacity.
So, what is there? There is a great open space at the front for wedding group shots. So big that you can do something different every time you do a set of group shots there. There are some beautiful trees in the grounds which can provide cover from the bright sun on sunny days, and the openness of the grounds mean that there is a huge potential for some awesome wedding photographs at sunset. Inside the halls are open and expansive. The bar area has some great window light to get some great natural light photographs of guests. There is also a massive floor to ceiling window on the staircase which is really amazing on wedding photographs. At the front, a lovely canopy to conduct small group images on rainy North Cumbria days.
There are a stack of things to photograph around the hotel, like the corn field next door which has just beautiful evening light in the autumn. All of the wedding photographers love this venue.
