Dark wood are a couple of words that spring from the mouths of Cumbrian wedding photographers when speaking of the Langdale Chase. The first time I photographed there I remember being really nervous. It was the wrong thing to be thinking as It was a real pleasure to be part of a wedding at one of the most historic and also one of the grandest buildings on Windermere. Like Storrs Hall it stands resplendent above lake Windermere large and imposing.
The grounds need very little introduction, with an awesome boat house, huge lines of trees and one of my favorite jetties to work on. The interior I actually favor for group images on bright days. The sun can be really harsh in the winter there and inside is often a safer bet when taking family formal images. Fast lenses are the order of the day though, but as my style is built around shallow depth of field and quick apertures, I have to adjust less than other photographers in the Lake District when covering a wedding there. It is probably a little more natural for me.
The bedrooms are really nice too and if you throw in the conservatory to the side of the dining room, you have a really complete venue which is full of original features and has stacks of space. I usually photograph around four or five weddings a year at the Langdale but it is always a pleasure to work at.
