Off the beaten track and conveniently just off the M6, Shap Wells is a really different venue but it has got a lot to offer for the adventurous bride and groom. Firstly there are the waterfalls which are a few minutes walk away over rough ground but really rewarding for photographs. There is also the river itself which actually has a great little pebble beach when the water levels are low enough. Shap Wells itself has some great little tucked away corners and some well positioned skylights in the function room that allow direct sunlight in to spotlight the floor.
Outside there is a wishing well a short walk into the woods beyond the car park and I have taken quite a few brides and grooms up to this beauty spot as it seems to yield something different every time. There is also a great high archway which is perfect on rainy days to get some extra images as it is quite sheltered. It can also be accessed without going outside.
Parked on the fringe of the Lake District, access to the baron moorland of the Eastern Lakes is just a 5 minute drive away, so Shap Wells can be a real treat for wedding photographers.
