Now, there are some venues out there that just seem impossibly cool. The Lodore falls has so many locations for wedding photography that sometimes you have to leave it up to brides and grooms to decide where they would like to go. Firstly there is the Lodore itself which has amazing bridges over the river, an amazing Adams family-esque gothic frontage (which photographs beautifully) and lush gardens full of all sorts of birds and creatures. It is also possible to get married outside now with the addition of a new permanent gazebo. The interior is beautiful too with loads of rooms to photograph in when the weather turns nasty.
Outside of the grounds there are two main locations. The first is the jetty on the lake which has views out over Derwentwater and towards Skiddaw. There are amazing reeds and cool rowing boats nearby which can also be used to add a sense of drama to any wedding day. There is also Ashness Bridge and Surprise View which is only a half hour round trip from the hotel by car. This offers great views, not only of the Lodore Falls itself but also over the Northern Lakes, with Bassenthwaite visible on clear days. Oh, I almost forgot, there is a view back to the Lodore from the jetty that is to die for. I can always find a new way to photograph it too!
I can’t think of any wedding photographers in Cumbria that I have spoken to that don’t like shooting at the Lodore. In the Northern Lake District it really does have things cornered. Shooting there in a unique way is made easy just by the size and breadth of locations on offer. For those who want heaps of variety, this is the place.
