An old favourite with wedding photographers, the Grange is a quirky venue with a real amount of inside space. The Ceilings are high, so when flash is bounced off them it lands on your subject in a beautiful and diffused way. There are great views out to the sea (Morecambe Bay) and some impressive water features out the front.
Another plus was the balcony next to the reception suite upstairs, which gives you a little more sunlight at the end of the day. There is also a beautiful ornate hood at the front of reception, so even if I get wet standing in the rain, wedding guests stay dry and protected from the rain. The staircase too is really awesome and in keeping with the rest of the venue. There is also a little track at the back of the venue leads off down towards Grange and I love using this to get a view back up towards the hotel.
Weddings here are relaxed affairs and always give me time to get plenty of images that reflect that. Guests milling around the grounds, sitting at the fountain and chatting over cocktails and arrival drinks are the best times for this.
A really great venue for wedding photography in the southern Lake District.
